About Us

The Old Town Hall is a buzzing arts space full of entertainment for everyone. Pop in to see our art exhibitions or a midweek matinee film. Saturdays are dedicated to the little ones with family films and children’s shows to inspire and delight. For a night out there’s something to suit everyone with music, theatre, film, comedy and dance. Relax with friends in the gallery bar, open before and after shows.

History

Proudly standing in the old town High Street since 1852, The Old Town Hall has been an arts space since 1978. Take a peek inside and find out what’s on; we think you will be pleasantly surprised. Look out from our gallery cafe bar, which opens in the autumn, you will see the 12th century St Mary’s church, reputed to be one of the highest church spires in Western Europe.

Famous faces

With historic figures such as King Henry VIII and William the Conqueror gracing the Old Town’s High Street, it’s no wonder that the likes of Jo Brand, Eddie Izzard, Mark Baldwin Dance, The Royal Court, the Reduced Shakespeare Company, Ben Elton, Mark Thomas and Harry Hill have walked the pilgrimage to The Old Town Hall!

Cafe with a view

Looking ahead to the autumn, we are delighted to reveal that we have some refurbishment plans afoot. The first stage will see the reopening of the gallery cafe bar during the day to serve light refreshments. We look forward to sipping a coffee and nibbling on a muffin whilst looking out at the magnificent vista of St Mary’s Church and beyond into Gadebridge Park. There is no other view quite like it in Hemel Hempstead!
